GasUtility.ai resources
Know what the directory actually covers.
A source population with explicit identity, date and geography limits. The directory is a reference for further research, not a complete market census or a live opportunity feed.
Source population and inclusion ledger
Every distinct PHMSA operator ID in the CY2025 gas distribution annual reports with Natural Gas or OTHER GAS: Natural Gas and positive reported main mileage or service count. This is a reporting population, not a legal census of retail utilities.
| Population measure | Count | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Source report rows | 1,442 | Populated rows before the documented scope exclusions and operator grouping. |
| Blank source rows ignored | 138 | Empty report rows excluded before counting the populated source population. |
| Source operator IDs | 1,343 | Distinct source IDs before scope exclusions. |
| Included report rows | 1,369 | Source rows within the supplied directory scope. |
| Included operator records | 1,301 | Grouped operator records, all available through the state pages and CSV. |
| Excluded rows: non Natural Gas Commodity | 73 | Source-extract scope exclusion; not a claim that the operator has no gas activity. |
Original PHMSA annual-report archive ↗ · Source member: GD AR 2025.csv
- The directory includes the complete filtered PHMSA reporting population. It does not claim every US retail gas utility or every master-meter system.
- PHMSA reports are operator records, not necessarily parent companies, consumer brands or regulated retail utilities. Separate IDs remain separate.
- Propane, synthetic gas, landfill gas, hydrogen and other non-natural-gas reports are excluded. Reports with no positive main mileage or service count are excluded.
- Hawaii has no in-scope natural-gas report in this snapshot; its synthetic-gas systems are outside this definition. A zero count does not mean no gas service.
- Website coverage is partial. Historical HIFLD source dates are mainly 2017; the mirror was last edited in 2021. Links may redirect, fail or lead to a parent. Current reachability is not identity proof.
- State counts can count a multi-state operator more than once. Map state shapes do not show service territories or office locations.
- This is a dated static snapshot, not a live operator monitoring service.
Source population and commercial scope
The reporting universe answers a specific question.
The directory uses the selected PHMSA gas-distribution annual-report population. It preserves every operator record in the supplied extract. A source operator is not automatically a standalone local distribution company or procurement buyer.
GasUtility.ai’s proposed commercial focus is US gas distribution. Producer, transmission, LNG and commodity trading activity require separate research scope. No national completeness or total-addressable-market claim is inferred from these records.
Identity and state association
| Directory field | What it supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| PHMSA operator ID | A source-specific key for the reporting operator. Multi-state rows can share an ID. | A corporate parent, legal procurement organization or contact identity. |
| Reported name | The name retained by the source extract. | A current trading name or a fully resolved acquisition history. |
| Ownership / entity type | The source’s reported classification or the explicit dataset classification. | A verified account segment, vendor eligibility or buying authority. |
| State association | State association uses the PHMSA STOP operating-state field in gas-distribution annual-report rows. It is not a service-territory boundary or a headquarters assignment. | Utility service boundaries, headquarters location or statewide customer coverage. |
| Listed website | A URL only when a separate supporting source is retained. A historical listing needs a current identity check. | A guessed domain, supplier portal or guarantee that every website is available. |
There are 50 state or jurisdiction groups with included records. Operators can appear in several state groups. Sum-of-state counts must not be treated as a unique national operator count.
Partial, historical website coverage
Unique exact normalized operator name and operating state matched to EIA-176 2024 company records, then exact EIA company ID plus state to historical HIFLD website listings. Ambiguous matches, conflicting URLs and sampled failed links are omitted. No domains inferred.
There are 209 source-linked websites and 1092 unavailable websites in this extract. Historical HIFLD website listings are not current identity verification. Each available listing keeps its source date and provenance on the state page.
Missing fields remain missing.
Null websites are displayed as unavailable. The directory does not infer official URLs from operator names. It also does not infer installed equipment, technology vendors, current asset condition or supplier relationships.
For an account decision, verify aliases, operating jurisdiction, relevant program evidence and the official sourcing route. Annual report statistics do not establish live leaks or predictive safety scores.
